FCBD Logo - Long

Who's smarter than, uh, a rock...? It's Chip Stone, aka The Incredible Rockhead, always ready to bash a few bullies! On Free Comic Book Day 2012, readers will take a hilarious adventure with some of the newest (and youngest) superheroes to be featured by Capstone Publishing. Plus, they can hitch a ride with young Zack Allen as he takes his Zinc Alloy super-suit for a wild and wacky test-drive.

Here Writer Scott Nickel tells us about his favorite Rockhead characters, why he loves working in the comic book industry and what readers can expect to see in this Freecomicbookday.com exclusive interview.

FCBD: Set your project up for those that might be new to your comic book. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?

Scott Nickel (SN): Chip Stone is your ordinary kid, except for one thing: whenever he’s in danger, he turns into a superhero with a giant rock head. This action-packed story features Rockhead, his sidekick The Spectacular Scissorlegz, and evil mutant Papercut. It’s rock, paper, scissors like you’ve never seen it before!

FCBD: What has been your favorite part of book or character to tackle?Article Image

SN: I love making Chip Stone nerdy yet heroic. And Spencer (Chip’s best friend and sidekick Scissorlegz) is a really fun character to write.

FCBD: Tell our readers why they should pick your book first on Free Comic Book Day (FCBD).

SN: Action, humor, mystery, and mutants! Who can resist?

FCBD: What’s your favorite part about being able to work in comics?

SN: I’ve been a lifelong comics fan. Getting paid to do what I love is a dream come true.

FCBD: Many newcomers will be picking up comics for the first time on FCBD—what was the first comic you remember reading?

SN: I believe it was an issue of The Incredible Hulk from 1966. I still have that comic!

FCBD: Where will you be for this year’s FCBD? Do you have any annual FCBD traditions?

SN: Reading comics, of course!

FCBD: Looking to the future of the book, is there anything you can tease about what's coming?

SN: I’ve been sworn to secrecy! All I can say is that fans should be prepared for Rockhead’s biggest challenge yet! (Which is a long-winded way of saying I have no idea what happens next!)
