Brian Michael Bendis: Well, this isn’t just any old Comic book… this is a completely brand-new story that is one of the first chapters of marvel’s gigantic summer event Civil War 2. The heroes of the Marvel universe, from all corners, are going to find themselves at a moral line in the sand over one of the biggest issues facing the world. This free comic book by myself and Jimmy Cheung is a big spoiler filled inciting incident for this entire story.

Free Comic Book Day: What has been your favorite part of the book or character to tackle?

Brian Michael Bendis: It’s SO big.  So many heroes in the Marvel Universe are affected by this. Finding that perfect and honest balance is so hard and yet so satisfying. It’s one of those stories only Marvel could do and you want to do it well.

Free Comic Book Day: What initially got you interested in comics?

Brian Michael Bendis: I fell in love with them at a very early age. I declared to my family that I would be the artist of Spider-Man.  So close!

Free Comic Book Day: What other titles would you compare to yours? “If a comic reader likes _______ , they should pick up my title?”

Brian Michael Bendis: Well, if you liked Marvel’s original Civil War or the other work we have done on Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, or House of M I think it is a must read.

Free Comic Book Day: Tell fans why they should pick your book first on Free Comic Book Day!

Brian Michael Bendis: It’s gorgeous, it’s free, and it’s a big chapter of a big story that will stay with many of your favorite Marvel heroes for years and years to come. And it’s free :)

Free Comic Book Day: What is your favorite part about Free Comic Book Day?

Brian Michael Bendis: The kids.  The families. Watching someone pick up the first copy of what will be their favorite new thing.

Free Comic Book Day: Where do you plan to spend Free Comic Book Day?

Brian Michael Bendis: Well, it’s my wedding anniversary. So not in a comic store. I hope you’ll all understand.
