2016 Free Comic Book Day Commemorative Artists Announced

Free Comic Book Day is excited to announce that there will be two commemorative shirts for Free Comic Book Day 2016, the 15th anniversary of Free Comic Book Day. Award-winning comic book artists Art Baltazar and Francesco Francavilla will each create a design capturing the FCBD spirit for T-shirts and posters that will be featured and in the January issue of Diamond’s PREVIEWS catalog and available for pre-order from comic shops.  

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Free Comic Book Day, two different designs for the event will be available for FCBD fans to enjoy. Artist and writer Art Baltazar has been making comics for more than 20 years. He is best known for his series Tiny Titans, which won the 2011 Eisner Award for Best Publication for Kids. Several of Baltazar’s comics have served as FCBD and Halloween ComicFest titles, as Tiny Titans #1 was given away during FCBD, while Itty Bitty Hellboy and Grimmiss Island have been Halloween ComicFest mini-comics.

“I am honored to be a part of Free Comic Book Day and it’s cool to have my characters cross over with other characters so they are all interacting with one another to celebrate this fun event” said artist Art Baltazar. “I think the kids and everyone celebrating Free Comic Book Day will really enjoy seeing characters they can recognize together on a FCBD T-shirt. I have been a part of Free Comic Book Day every year it has taken place, so for the 15 year anniversary I am excited to be a part of it again by creating something special for everyone to have to remember this amazing event.”

Italian comic artist Francesco Francavilla has gained a following in his nine years in the industry for his pulp-inspired art style. He is most renowned for his work on The Black Beetle and Afterlife with Archie. A prolific cover artist, Francavilla won the 2012 "Best Cover Artist" Eisner Award.“Every year the Free Comic Book Day committee commissions an artist to do some artwork for T-shirts and the posters to promote Free Comic Book Day and that’s a very important day for our industry so I was extremely honored to be asked to do the artwork for the 2016 Free Comic Book Day,” said artist Francesco Francavilla.

The FCBD T-shirt will be available in black and navy in adult sizes Small to XXL (MSRP: $14.99-$17.99) and in youth sizes Small to Large (MSRP: $11.99). Women's V-neck T-shirts will be also be available again this year in sizes Small to XL (MSRP: $14.99-$17.99). Both Art and Francesco’s artwork will also be available as commemorative posters to remember the fun and excitement of 2016's FCBD festivities. All proceeds go to support Free Comic Book Day's marketing and promotional efforts.

The commemorative Free Comic Book Day T-Shirts and posters, plus the complete listing of the FCBD 2016 titles, will be available in the January issue of PREVIEWS, in comic shops December 24, 2015.
