Article ImageDerek Drymon, a frequent contributor to SpongeBob Comics, and Nate Neal, who writes pirate comics that open every issue of SpongeBob Comics, are excited to announce their FCBD 2013, SpongeBob Freestyle Funnies! These two took time to give their readers some insight about their new comic for FCBD 2013!

FCBD: For those who might be new to your comic book, give a quick rundown. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?
Derek Drymon: In terms of story a new reader can expect to see the humor of the Spongebob Squarepants TV show.  In terms of art there’s a wide variety; some stories look just like the show, but we also have regular contributions from artists as different as James Kochalka (Dragon Puncher) and Ramona Fradon (Metamorpho).

FCBD: What has been your favorite part of book or character to tackle?
DD: My favorite part of working on the SpongeBob comic has been getting the chance to work with many different artists, like Gregg Schigiel, Jacob Chabot, Rick Altergott, Steve Bissette, Tony Millionaire, and Jerry Ordway.

FCBD: Tell FCBD fans why they should pick your book first on Free Comic Book Day!
DD: If you’re a fan of the SpongeBob SquarePants television show then you should definitely pick up the book on Free Comic Book Day, because it is filled with your favorite characters from the show in original stories..

FCBD: What’s your favorite part about working in comics?
DD: My favorite part about working in comics is… working in comics. I love everything about it; writing the stories, drawing the pages, seeing the comics when they are printed. It’s a huge thrill for me.

FCBD: Many newcomers will pick up comics for the first time on FCBD—what was the first comic you remember reading?
DD: The first comic I remember reading was a Peanuts collection that my uncle bought me. I must have been four or five years old. I still love Peanuts.

FCBD: Looking to the future of the book, is there anything you can tease about what's upcoming?
DD: We’re almost finished with our second 20-page adventure story and we’re starting to plan out a multi-part story that will run over three or four issues. I’m having a lot of fun trying new types of stories for the characters.
