FCBD: For those who might be new to your comic book, give a quick rundown. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?

NATE COSBY: It's Cow Boy, an all-ages Western written by me, drawn by the great Chris Eliopoulos. Boyd Linney's a 10-year-old bounty hunter determined to round up his entire outlaw family. Seems like an impossible task for a little kid, but he's too young to know better. So he punches and kicks his way outta sticky situations while riding the Wild West on a horse that ain't his.

FCBD: What has been your favorite part of book or character to tackle?

NC: I enjoy throwing Boyd up against grown-up situations, and seeing what happens. Adults tend to think of themselves as superior to children, just because they've seen and done more. I enjoy making that blow up in their face. So I guess my favorite part is making grown-ups look dumb.

FCBD: Tell FCBD fans why they should pick your book first on Free Comic Book Day!

NC: Archaia starts with an A. So if you don't see their book first? You're cutting in line. Don't do that. They'll kick you out of the store.

FCBD: What other titles would you associated with your FCBD book? “If a comic reader likes _______ , they should pick up my title"?

NC: Deadwood, Peanuts, Unforgiven, or Calvin & Hobbes.

FCBD: What’s your favorite part about working in comics?

NC: The entire creative process of making something from nothing, finishing it, then moving on to the next thing.

FCBD: Many newcomers will pick up comics for the first time on FCBD—what was the first comic you remember reading?

NC: Had to be Superman or Batman. Cuz as a kid I recall wearing a towel and clothespin everywhere (I mean EVERYWHERE: school, grocery store, church, etc.).

FCBD: Where will you be for this year’s FCBD? Do you have any annual FCBD traditions?

NC: Me'n Chris Eliopoulos will be signing in NYC, at Midtown Comics' downtown location (64 Fulton Street, corner of Gold St.) from 1-3pm. Come by'n see how pretty we are!

FCBD: Looking to the future of the book, is there anything you can tease about what's upcoming?

NC: You can grab the first volume now, in hardcover. We're working hard on the second Cow Boy volume now, due out in late 2013. It's called Unconquerable, and it's about what happens when you set out on a path, thinking you know where you're going...only to realize that life is not a straight line.

FCBD: Tell us why everyone should read comic books?

NC: You can read and see stories massive and teeny, featuring a cast that's countless or contained. Comics are bigger than any genre, any company, any creator. They're the thing you get in trouble for reading by nightlight when your mom told you to go to sleep. But it's worth it. Because they're COMICS.
